Saint Agatha

St. Agatha lived in the 300s. Some of the stories about her may be false. She lived in Sicily and was a virgin. The governor attempted to seduce her and condemned her to a brothel after she denied him. She miraculously kept her virginity. Then she was tortured. Her breasts were ripped off with pincers. After that St. Peter came to her and healed her. Finally she was put over hot coals and while she was burning earthquakes happened.she protects people from earthquakes, lightning, fire, volcanoes, and breast deseases. In art she can be seen with her breasts on a plate, carrying pincers or shears, holding a blazing building, or during her torture or right after. I got my info from the gallery companion.

                   that's all folks,

The Botanical Garden

Hello again. Siena is getting prettier and prettier as it warms up and walks or runs around the Medici fortress are becoming quite regular. Recently I went to the Botanical Garden which was a nice place to go for a stroll. There were many different kinds of plants including some cactuses in a greenhouse. I also heard the songs of some birds that take refuge there. They even had a few flower pots with water in them and a couple of tiny ponds. It would probably also be a nice place to have a picnic. That's all for this post but I will put up a new saint today too.

             ciao,

Saint of March 5th

Hello, today's saint is Saint Bartholomew. He was a disciple of Jesus and is in three of the gospels and possibly all of them (but under a different name in John's). He and Saint Philip helped spread the holy word over and over in Arabia, Mesopotamia and maybe as far as India. In Armenia he was flayed alive and as if that wasn't enough he was also crucified and beheaded. He is the patron saint of everyone who works with animal skins because he was skinned. He can be seen in art holding a knife, his skin or seem red because of the skinning. Sometimes art will show him being skinned.
He is very popular in art and I have seen him in multiple museums and churches.

The Introduction

Hello and welcome to my blog. I'm an adolescent boy who really likes dystopian books. I have recently decided that as I am having some really interesting experiences it would be nice to document them. I am currently in Italy so I will be posting some cool pictures of museums and such. I will also be posting a series of saints because I have started to learn my saints and I think that it makes museums both more fun and interesting if I am playing "name that saint". So that's all for now. I hope you enjoy my blog.
